This Thursday, the Minister of Health inaugurated the laboratory for testing suspected cases of COVID-19, in the province of Nampula.

The inauguration of the laboratory takes place one day after the release of data on the sero-epidemiological survey showing that all neighborhoods in the city of Nampula have transmission of the new Coronavirus.

Asked whether or not the numbers of cases will skyrocket with the operation of the laboratory, Armindo Tiago said he hoped there would be an increase, because there would be more capacity for testing suspected cases in Covid-19.

The serum-epidemiological survey was conducted in 10 days and covered a total of 6,272 individuals of all age groups. Preliminary data presented this Wednesday reveal that in all neighborhoods in the city of Nampula there is transmission of the new coronavirus, with Natikire and Nametequeliua having the highest prevalence, with 12% and 11% of respondents, respectively. However, looking at the analysis by professional groups, market vendors are the most exposed to COVID-19.

The data from this survey should guide the concentrated action of municipal authorities, central and provincial governments and Health to contain community transmission.
